You know, I’ve told you before how I think an ecomm site is a no-brainer, right? Well, today I’m giving even MORE reasons to want to jump on the bandwagon. Five of them, in fact.
If you’re industrious and creative, there’s no reason you can’t succeed in ecomm. There’s way too much information online to help you follow the road to success.
Yes, mostly from me! 🙂
And without further ado….
1. eCommerce is expected to grow by 13 to 25 percent.
Projections from eMarketer are predicting e-Commerce growth through 2018. Globally the expected peak is this year is nearly $1.6 trillion and by the end of 2018, almost $2.5 trillion. In the U.S. alone, e-Commerce growth is expected to be somewhere between 11.6 and 16.5%.
When deciding on what type of business if financially viable, anything that’s considered a growth market is your best option. e-Commerce is a great choice for this fact alone if you’re wanting to diversify, expand, or just start a new venture altogether.
2. Almost passive income has never been simpler.
One of the most beautiful things about the world wide web, is just that. It’s worldwide. You buy a domain name for a few bucks, slap it up on a website that costs less than $10/month for hosting, marketing your products… and just like magic, people from around the world can find you WITHOUT having to have a physical store in a foreign land that would cost a fortune to implement strategically.
But let’s take this a step further… say you’re out and about at the park on a Saturday. You’re ecomm store has t-shirts with witty sayings for parents. You’re wearing one this beautiful day. A fellow dad comes up to you and says, “That t-shirt is absolutely a riot! Where can I get one?” You can literally pull out your phone and process an order right from the comforts of your shady park bench. You close with, “Your shirt will be delivered in 5-7 business days. Thank you!”
That doesn’t even begin to touch the fact that all night long, even while you’re sleeping, people from all over the world are actively searching the internet and finding products they love and buying. You could wake up to money in the bank and orders in a queue to be filled. REM sleep never felt so good, right?!?
3. eCommerce stores are user friendly to set up.
Personally, I’m a Shopify fan. You can literally pay a few bucks, set up your store, marketing automations, SEO… the whole. nine. yards! All in one platform for a very inexpensive monthly fee. It integrates with Facebook and has a ton of handy addons that make being a savvy store owner like yourself look like a ninja ecomm genius!
One of the most tricky parts of getting a store up and running is choosing the right products. But even that seems less intimidating given my two secret combo: drop shipping and being a fan.
What I mean is, products you’ve used and are already passionate about… THOSE are the products you try to stock in your stores. It will be EASY for you to convince other people to buy them! And drop shipping will be your savior from stocking inventory and shipping nightmares. You can use such platforms as AliExpress and even eBay to place orders for your products AND have them shipped to your buyer all in the same transaction!
4. EVERYONE shops online.
And when I say everyone, I mean EVERYONE. As much as 80% of online users have made a purchase online. And that percentage is only going to grow. The trick to being one of the stores that gets frequent and return customers is building trust and credibility with your audience.
Here are five things you can do to ensure you’re fostering this type of relationship.
- Make your site as user-friendly as possible.
- Create informative content to go along with the products you sell so it helps buyers best use their purchases.
- Build social proof by sharing testimonials on your site and on social media.
- Have reputable site security.
- Provide a privacy policy.
5. Retargeting previous customers is a goldmine.
Remember before when I said Shopify has add ons that make being a marketing ninja easy peasy? One of them help you retarget would be shoppers who abandon their cart. I mean, imagine this… Suzy is shopping along on your site and has a cart with $200 of products… but life happens….
Suzy’s son runs screaming through the house with a big gash gushing down his leg… abandoned cart. But don’t worry. There’s an addon to save the day! You can literally retarget that person and say, “Hey, we noticed you have items in your shopping cart. If you place your order now you can save 10%.” Then low and behold a couple days later Suzy completes her order when everything calms down.
Nice, huh?
Plus, even if someone just lands on your website, you can cookie them and retarget them for ads to keep them coming back until they finally do buy. There’s some marketing stat somewhere that says it takes up to 8 touches with a potential client before they actually purchase. Gotta love those cookies!
So that’s it. The Top 5 Reasons You Should Start an Ecomm Store. But I’ve saved the best for last! Consider this a bonus 🙂
I briefly mentioned above that if you have informative content added to your site it helps build trust and encourages buyers on how to use your products, using every day life situations that show your items to be necessary to making their lives more convenient. When these readers get on your email list, you can encourage them to buy more often through sales, discounts, promotions… the sky’s the limit!
